Aurora

Aurora Aksnes was born on 15 June 1996 in Stavanger Norway. She is professionally known as Aurora and often stylized with highercase letters like AURORA. Her debut E.P. Running with the Wolves was released through Decca Records Decca Records in May 2015 getting great reviews from musicians and music blogs as well as the press. She's recorded a variety of well-known cover songs, including Half the World Away (by Oasis) for the Christmas advert. Oasis) for John Lewis' Christmas advert and Nature Boy (by Nat King Cole) The songs have been widely praised. Katy Perry, who endorsed the hit song Runaway with her voice, gave an additional boost to the music. It was her birthday celebration. Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory was of discovering the piano she had in her attic and being awed by the music it could make. Her parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to take up music not as professional or as a pastime, but rather to gain experience. She started writing songs of her own. She cites renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as inspirations, and also an appreciation for the style of Bjork. Her mother encouraged her to perform her songs in public, not in order to achieve fame, but rather to inspire others to realize just how important the music they compose and what they can do for the world. The piano was first played by her when she was just 6 years old and was writing her first song by the time she was nine. Her family didn't hear about it until she reached 14. There was no way she could have imagined to become Aurora. She says she just likes writing songs. Music is for her the best method to express anything.
